Since I got a client asking me about his e-store’s mobile version, in client’s minds, a mobile version is only the skeleton of his website, unfortunately, the site you see on mobile screen isn’t quite the same as the one you view on a laptop. Some features often can’t run on mobile-phone Web browsers.
The size of the text and blocks will be smaller. Also, the not all mobile browsers support the Flash.
All images should be optimized for the web. Maximum size should be 5K.
Page size should not exceed 20KB.
It will be used image formats JPEG or GIF 89a only.
All the images which are not connect with database content will meet these requirements. The content images (product thumbnails, category icon and etc) will be managed by admin and he is responsible for the size and format of these images.
The JavaScript and AJAX features with flyout and popup sections will work without it.
The list of the browsers where we can guarantee the correction working process:
- Nokia Web Browser for S60
- Pocket Internet Explorer
- Opera Mini
- Opera Mobile
- NetFront for Symbian
- NetFornt for Pocket PC
- Fennec by Mozilla Foundation
- Openwave Mobile Browser
Also, you should use special mobile version of payments (e.g. Paypal mobile checkout)
So the development of a mobile version of your e-store is not a on and off issue, but a seperate project, since it is a costy thing to do, if you do not have a clear marketing mind, you may rethink to create your mobile version x-cart.
